Bess Heitner this is SUCH a great question. I totally know what you mean. While I know this is hard, here are some thoughts. Just because someone lectures us doesn’t mean in the moment we should interrupt them. You mentioned that at the end of your comment so I know we’re on the same page there. If you have a friend who is constantly lecturing, it might be worth having a conversation with that friend specifically about how they come across when they are sharing their thoughts and opinions. Bringing it up in a separate, intentional conversation allows you to hopefully address the difficulty which could lead to more good conversations where lecturing AND interrupting aren’t big factors.
